The PFF are now looking for talented players here in the UK. The aim is to build on the 6 current British-Filipino players who were involved in the National Team last May in the Asian Challenge Cup, in IloIlo. This year after three matches resulted in 2 wins and a draw, the Philippines rose 20 places in the FIFA rankings from 189 to 169! This success is largely built on the 6 British players, 3 of which are playing for Premiership reserve teams.
Together with PFAUK (Philippine Football Agency UK), the PFF have arranged a trial here in the UK up in Manchester for up and coming, amateur, non-league and former youth players to get the chance to play for their country! The trial will be held on Sunday, 17th August from 1pm-4pm at:
Wright Robinson Sports College ,
Abbey Hey Lane,
After the trial the Philippine Team will be playing against a team from mainly West Africa selected by the Sports4life group. It will all be filmed and present will be a few scouts from some good teams, such is the interest that a scout from Manchester United will be there!
Later, this coming autumn the Philippine National Team will be playing matches all over the UK, mainly against teams from League 1 and 2. The plan is to one day in near future challenge teams from the Championship and even Premiership, as the Chinese national team had done in the 90’s.
So, if you have the drive to make it as a footballer, remember Stuart Pearce and Ian Wright made it from non-league football, PFAUK are appealing for talented players of Filipino decsent to try out. Age is not an issue, if you are good enough you can play for your country, you could even get the opportunity of playing in the Philippines for one of the teams there!
