STATEMENT FROM THE PHILIPPINE EMBASSY & TRIBUTE MASS IN HONOR OF THE LATE FORMER PRESIDENT CORAZON AQUINO

STATEMENT OF THE PHILIPPINE EMBASSY IN LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM
ON THE DEMISE OF FORMER PRESIDENT CORAZON COJUANGCO AQUINO (1933-2009)

The Philippine Embassy in London expresses its deepest and most profound sorrow at the passing of former Philippine President Corazon C. Aquino.

“Cory”, as she was most affectionately known to the Filipino people, was a true hero and inspiration whose grace, courage and sensibility led the “People Power” revolution that served as a beacon for democracy movements around the world.

The Philippines’ own road towards the rebuilding of democracy and re-establishment of democratic institutions was paved by President Aquino’s leadership through the most difficult of circumstances, with freedom and the rule of law always triumphant and forever flourishing under her watch.

Indeed, the liberties and democracy the Philippines enjoys today are her lasting legacies to every Filipino.

Filipinos likewise take true pride in the recognition she brought to the Philippine nation. President Aquino and the Filipino people were honored globally as they demonstrated to the entire world the great ideal that individuals can humbly yet powerfully come together and, through peaceful, non-violent means, overcome the impossible.

Beyond her presidency, “Cory” was known for her personal honesty, decency and spirituality. The values she held and championed inspired millions and transcended politics, nationality and gender.

The Embassy joins the Filipino people and the world in extending most sincere condolences to the loving family President Aquino left behind. May they be consoled that she now lies in the eternal peaceful embrace of the Lord and her Ninoy whom she loved so very much.
