Parol Workshop (Lantern Making): Learn How To Make Your Very Own Parol!

Join us in making traditional Christmas lanterns! Every year we are honoured that there are many Filipinos and non Filipinos participate at this seasonal event with their friends and families. They all put a lot of efforts to build their own lanterns and everyone helping each other;  the true sense of bayanihan.

In the Filipino language, a Christmas lantern is a ‘parol’. There is no greater symbol of the Filipino Christmas spirit than the parol, it is our Christmas tree.

Throughout the Christmas season, star-shaped lanterns can be found hanging outside homes and along the streets of cities and small provincial towns, farms and fishing villages. For Filipinos, making a parol, decorating one and lighting a parol is an expression of shared faith and hope. We would like to share this beautiful art with everyone this Christmas.

Apart from lantern making, this year we also have activities for children, face painting, christmas card making and paper parol making. So if your child can’t make a parol with you they have things they can do too!

We also run a competition on the best looking Parol, everyone will vote on the night, so make sure you finish your parol in time for the competition to win the Christmas Hamper! If you don’t win the best parol maybe you will win from our raffle draw. So Good luck!

The best thing about this year is that you have a chance to display your Parol at the Philippine Embassy London. We will submit some lanterns to display at the embassy from 14th December until January. So let your Parol shine our Embassy!
