It’s that time of year – “Pasko na naman!” It’s Christmas again!

Every year, Filipinos around the world adorn their homes with Parols, the ever-present colourful lanterns that evoke the star of Bethlehem. And we at Philippine Generations are no exception – we are happy to present the Annual PG Parol Workshop on Saturday 7th December, where you can create your very own Parol and kick off your Christmas season in style.
Venue: St Saviour’s Church, St George’s Square, Lupus Street, PIMLICO SW1V 3QW
Directions: Nearest Tube station is Pimlico. Walk down Lupus Street, and St Saviour will be on your left
Time: Saturday 7th December, 12:30pm-5:00pm
Prices: Entry is free. Parol kits will be available to buy on the day and can also be ordered online
Contact: Email info@philippinegenerations.org for further details. If you want to be a volunteer, please fill out our volunteer form here
Anyone and everyone is welcome to join us as we, you, your friends and family make Parols – as simple or as complex as you want – using our starter kits as well as the expertise of our helpful volunteers to create a wonderful decoration for the home.

Here are some photos from last year’s Parol Workshop!

However, we do recognise that this Christmas will be sombre for many of us, as we reflect on the devastation Typhoon Haiyan has left back in the Philippines, and those family and friends who have been affected. PG is therefore going to donate all of the proceeds from the Parol Workshop to the relief efforts, supporting local grassroots charities that will help not only with immediate relief but with long-term reconstruction efforts.

There will also be a raffle as well as other fundraising activities taking place on the day.

But we should take hope in the fact that Filipinos and other people worldwide are banding together to help our kababayans back in the Philippines. And what better way to symbolise that hope than with a Parol, which in turn brings to mind the star of Bethlehem, one of the most hopeful symbols in the world?
At 8pm on Monday 23rd December, there will be a Parol Parade in Trafalgar Square, where we can show off our Parols, either made in the workshop or store-bought, and demonstrate our hope and our one-ness with the survivors of Typhoon Haiyan. Information will be confirmed closer to the date, but we really want to encourage everyone – and we mean EVERYONE, Parol or not – to bring a glimmer of hope to the world during this Christmas season.
