Making Philippine Christmas Lantern
St. Mark's Church
Old Marylebone Street
Marylebone
London
NW1 5QT
Join us make traditional Christmas lanterns! This year will be our second year running and is proudly funded by Westminster Partnership. In the Filipino language, a Christmas lantern is called a 'parol'. There is no greater symbol of the Filipino Christmas spirit than the parol. It is our Christmas tree. All through the Christmas season, star-shaped lanterns can be found hanging outside homes and along the streets of cities and small provincial towns, farms and fishing villages. For Filipinos, making a parol, decorating one and lighting a parol is an expression of shared faith and hope. We would like to share this beautiful art with everyone this Christmas. You can slao enter your parol to the 'Share Hope Outreach Parol Competition'. The winning Parol will be displayed at SW1 Gallery in Victoria (see more info here!)

Malcoln Conlan a volunteer of Philippine Generations and founder of fil-event.com, he is a father of two and married to a Filipina. Malcolm is attempting to walk from his family home in Bromley to the Philippine Embassy near Trafalgar Square. Which is about 10 miles and it will approximately take him 5 hours to arrive at the Philippine Embassy. He has no training, hardly walks anywhere and calls himself unfit. Why the challenge? He is doing this for a very good cause.
Malcolm and his family watched the news from his home about the recent Typhoon Pedring, internationally named Nesat, affecting so many people and taking many lives. Reportedly the death toll is 45 with 44 injured and 30 still missing, its like typhoon Ondoy all over again. Malcolm also helped fundraise two years ago at the Guanabana Gig, which was successful and raised over £2000.
Malcolm's message below:
"I never walk anywhere really and I am quite unfit, however I feel I must make some kind of personal effort to help raise funds for those affected by the recent Typhoon which has hit the Philippines so badly!
I have therefore decided to walk around ten miles next Monday and would love it if you could find a place in your hearts to spare a pound or two in sponsorship please!
Philippine Generations have very kindly agreed to help with this effort and will help send any money kindly donated to those in need.
Maraming salamat po! Many thanks!"
