Typhoon Bopha (or Pablo as it is locally known) is one of the deadliest cyclones to hit southern Philippines since Tropical Storm Washi last year. The typhoon brought floods and landslides to southern Mindanao on December 4, and has since travelled northwards, dissipating in the South China Sea west of Luzon in the past weekend. It has obliterated whole communities particularly in the Davao Oriental region, where it is estimated at least 115,000 homes were destroyed, almost 800 people killed and about roughly the same number of people missing.
The United Nations has since launched a $65m global aid appeal for victims of typhoon Bopha, indicating the scale of devastation that it has caused. Philippine Generations will answer this call by donating £1.50 of each Christmas parol sold (and those that have already been sold) to natural disaster relief aid operations in the Philippines. Commit to this cause and help turn around the lives of the families affected in time for Christmas.
